Tavana & taimane - lei day celebration - double header CONCERT!On Wednesday, May 1, Tavana and Taimane join forces to celebrate Lei Day at Blue Note Hawaii with a special double-header performance! Taimane and her band perform at 6:30 p.m. with Tavana sitting in as a special guest. Then, at 9:00 p.m., Tavana takes over the stage with his full scale production featuring his wide array of stringed instruments (Hawaiian lap steel, acoustic guitar, ukulele and banjo) along with his arsenal of foot pedals (electronic drums). During Tavana’s concert, Taimane will join as special guest. A lei maker will be onsite at both shows with beautiful floral creations of all shapes, colors and styles available for purchase adding a special vibrancy to the evening. Yesterday & Today: May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii Nei, a nearly 100 year old practice that sees residents and visitors across the state make extra effort to share aloha through the giving of flower lei. This year, Blue Note Hawaii adds a new leaf to this long standing tradition by presenting two separate concerts in one special night by two of Hawaii’s fastest rising stars, Taimane and Tavana. Both artists are Oahu residents (born and raised), of Polynesian descent (hapa Samoan) and recognized for their great virtuoso talents *and* big hearts. The cherry on top comes in the form of the energy that emanates whenever these two come together on stage. Kindred spirits, Taimane and Tavana have a longtime friendship that epitomizes the collaborative, fun loving spirit of Hawaii’s island culture and fills every room with light. “Waikiki has a long history with Hawaii music and culture and continues to be a central piece of every up and coming artist’s career,” says Tavana. “It’s the perfect place for a Lei Day concert, and I’m honored to be part of Blue Note Hawaii’s big celebration. Can’t wait to pull out all the stops for this one and turn up the heat with Taimane.” “Waikiki is a special place for me, the birthplace of my career busking on the street starting at age 10 and by age13, performing with Don Ho every week,” shares Taimane. “Stoked to return to my Hawaii musical ‘home’ for Lei Day and excited about jamming some songs with Tavana!” We hope you will all come out and join us for a very special Lei Day celebration, Wednesday, May 1st! Tickets: 6:30 p.m. Show: Taimane with Special Guest Tavana 9:00 p.m. Show: Tavana with Special Guest Taimane
By age 13, Taimane landed a position in Don Ho’s show literally playing in the spotlight every week until Ho’s passing. Fast forward to today, and you have an artist who tours the world and has carved out a unique niche in music merging a wide array of genres, from Bach to rock, flamenco infernos to tribal hymns, summoning a seemingly limitless palette of emotions via an instrument previously viewed as a restricted device. Tavana is back at Crossroads Hawaiian Brian's on Thursday, March 14th featuring drummer Mark Lindberg and bassist Ian Sheridan in a new concept group called 'Tavana Electric' where Tavana stands up - leaving his drum pedal board behind - and freely moves around the stage gathering momentum and energy as he goes, putting on a positively electric performance! That's right folks!!! Tavana and Dave Edery are bringing back to life their thunderous rock duo - Loco Mojo - for a special one-off performance on Thursday, December 20th at 8 p.m. at Crossroads Hawaiian Brian's. The pair grew up and graduated together from Kaiser High School in Hawaii Kai and have been performing on and off together ever since. Beginning in 2011, Tavana and Dave began performing occasionally together under the name 'Loco Mojo' that quickly created a cult following and had a much-storied last concert at King's Pub several years ago in a farewell show that is still talked about in the Honolulu underground music scene. The pair joined back up for a single show in Summer of 2017 at Crossroads and the two rocked the place to the ground...the applause from which still echoes in Honolulu's much beloved live music venue. And now, they are back to do it again - two of Hawaii's hottest guitar players and childhood friends - ready to share with fans their certain special kind of loco mojo. When these two are together magical things happen and you definitely don't want to miss it! Tickets are available online here.
LABOR DAY WEEKEND CELEBRATION!!! Friday, August 31st marks the beginning of Labor Day Weekend - no work 'til Tuesday. Time to raise a glass, toast a fantastic summer and revel in the glow of one of the most festive holiday periods of the year. What better place to get your spirit soaring than The Lanai at Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach? Big, beautiful deck perched high above Waikiki, the sun, moon and stars beaming above and Tavana immersing all in soul-stirring sounds. A musical / community experience that's as good as it gets in our book. And there's a cherry on top. Singer-songwriter / playwright / actress, Lucie Lynch, joins Tavana on-stage this Friday. About Lucie: Raised in Germany, Lynch's theatrical background is readily apparent in her music. Having studied both theatre and music at Schauspiel Studio in Hamburg, Lynch went on to write, produce and perform a one-woman musical, 'Gabrielle's Universe' (the story of a neurotic secretary who marries her typewriter in search of true love), across Germany before landing in Honolulu where she co-wrote, produced and performed the award-winning musical, 'Money Talks: But What The Hell Is It Saying?' This theatrical immersion has served Lynch well in her music with her sweet voice telling stories in beautiful, captivating fashion. A soaring pau hana Friday is just around the corner. We've had lots of big crowds throughout the summer. Looking forward to another full house overflowing with energy. Come get your holiday weekend started off right! As always, admission is free. Plus, there's free valet & self parking with $20 food and/or beverage purchase.
