Tavana is incredibly pleased to welcome back to stage the legendary John Cruz on Tuesday, May 9th at Crossroad's Hawaiian Brian's! Also featured will be River West - a slow-burning soul singer from Spanish Harlem. John Cruz is a native of Oahu and played shows with the immensely popular band - the Ka'au Crater Boys - in the mid-90s alongside his brother Ernie. He went on to release his first album, 'Acoustic Soul' in 1996, which made an artistic and commercial impact like few other recordings in Hawaiian musical history. Since then, John has recorded alongside Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, co-wrote a song with Trey Anastasio, played with Jack Johnson, had three of his songs featured on Kelly Slater's DVD 'Letting Go', and had his song 'Hi'ilawe' released on the official Hawaii Five-O soundtrack. His most recent album, 'One of These Days' debuted at #1 in Hawaii, #2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, and #6 on the Billboard World Chart. River West moved to Hawaii several years ago from NYC and soon met fellow musicians Root Hub and Tommy Osuna. She began taking vocal lessons from Tommy Osuna (who has also performed with Tavana on a number of occasions) and soon enough the three of them formed their own blues band. While that band no longer performs together, it sparked a collaboration between River and Root Hub who went on to perform together frequently over the past 3 years. Sadly, this will mark River's final performance in the islands for the time being as she heads off at the end of this week to San Francisco where she will attend film school. Fans need not worry however as she plans to return to her home in Hawaii in May of 2018. Says River, "Life is always about change. And there is rarely a moment when I don't think of the next best thing, but one thing that will never change is my passion for singing." A Hui Hou - River!!! Hope to see you all at the show!...It's sure to be rockin'! P.S. See below for a video of John Cruz performing his hit song 'Island Style' with Jack Johnson and Jackson Browne!
